Date Range1997- 2014DescriptionAfter a Core Service Review in 1996, the Parks and Gardens service delivery unit was set up, taking overall management of contracts and day-to-day operations for the nurseries, city gardens, cemeteries, botanic gardens, trees and Town Belt. (Between 1998 and 2002, Leisure and Community Services Commissioning unit handled parks and gardens policy, asset information and planning, customer advocacy and quality auditing.)
The managing division for Parks and Gardens has changed several times. In October 2000, it was placed under City Services and Marketing (also called Marketing and City Services). As of June 2006, it was a unit of the Recreation and Events Directorate. Advisory, planning and research services relating to parks and reserves were the responsibility of the Open Space and Recreation Planning Unit, under the same directorate.
