G N T Goldie

George Neilson Tregilgas Goldie, professionally known at G N T Goldie, was born in 1903 to Mabel Agnes Ryder and George Neilson Goldie. He married Olive Tonking in 1929.

He first role at the Wellington City Council was that of surveyor in 1927. He held a number of positions at the council throughout his career, including assistant chief traffic inspector (1937), town planning assistant (1938-1945) and regional planning officer (1946-1960). He retired in 1960 for medical reasons.

In 1931, he became the first New Zealander to become an associate member of the Town Planning Institute of Great Britain.

In 1938, he was the recipient of a Carnegie Trust Corporation grant that allowed him to undertake an international trip to collect information about a wide-variety of topics relating to his work, including traffic development and town planning. This trip resulted in the three notebooks in this series, which consist of his personal notes, sketches and related newspaper clippings.
